Doug Dunnavant - Pastor

PASTOR ROBERT DOUGLAS DUNNAVANT

Pastor Doug  has been the Pastor of Crossroads Community Baptist Church since he began the church back on August 8th 1988.  For 20 years now Pastor Doug has been faithfully fulfilling his responsiblility to God and to the members of this unique Southern Baptist Church.

Prior to Pastoring Crossroads, Pastor Doug was Associate Pastor at Verde Heights Baptist Church, where he served for 7 years.  While serving as Associate Pastor he was in charge of music and youth ministries.  He also opened the church's first daycare ministry, which became tremendously successful in its outreach to parents and children.

During his tenure as Associate Pastor  at Verde Heights Pastor Doug began biblical studies through Liberty University.  During that time; the church ordained and licensed Pastor Doug to the Gospel ministry.

Pastor Doug was born in Henryetta Oklahoma on April 5th, 1956.  He spent the first 8 years of his life in Midland Texas.  At the age of 8 his family moved to Fresno California where he lived until he was 21 years old.  He graduated Roosevelt HIgh School, and then spent 3 years at Fresno State College.  Pastor Doug's intent at that stage in his life was to be a music teacher.  Pastor Doug studied the violin and played with several different orchestras.  At the age of 21, pastor Doug moved to Tucson.

Pastor Doug met Jesus Christ at the age of 9 at a little neighborhood church in Fresno Ca.  At the age of 22 Pastor Doug met Cyndi, his wife, while working at Sambo's Resturant in Tucson.  Six months later they were married.  Exactly one year later they  had their first child,  on ther first anniversay , (a son ) Douglas Aaron.  Two years later their daughter,  Alisha Danielle, was born.  They have been married for 30 years.

Both Pastor Doug and Cyndi started attending the church they were married in (Verde Heights).  At this church they both recommitted their life to Jesus Christ and wer both baptized together; it was at this  point that God began to lead Pastor Doug and his family down a wonderful journey of ministy work.    He has faithfully  been fulfilling his call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the southside of Tucson for 25 year, and now to the people of midtown Tucson.

He has a strong vision for seeing Tucson brought to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and Crossroads Community Church becoming a strong influence for the cause of Christ in our beautiful city.  Some of the greatest influences in Pator Doug's life and ministry have been the teachings of John McArthur, Charles Stanley and Rick Warren.  Some of the men who have been personal infleunces for Christ in his life, have been Neil Crecilious, Ron Bailey (Deacon) ,Jay George (Pastor), Ron Hart (Pastor) and many more.

One of Pastor Doug's favorite verses is Revelation 12:11 "They overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of ltheir testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death."

Douglas Dunnavant - Youth Minister

Douglas was born April 9th, 1979 to Doug and Cyndi Dunnavnt, in Tucson, Arizona. Both his parents were deeply committed to Christ serving in His church, so naturally that same discipline was taught to him at an early age. From the time he was born, Douglas began to grow in the knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ.

When he was five years old sitting next to his parents in Sunday Service, the Pastor began to give a message about Heaven and Hell. Hell of course was not the desired destination for this young boy. As the Pastor continued to explain,  Douglas understood that the only way to avoid the torment of hell was to accept Jesus Christ into your heart. This seemed like a no brainer for him, and as the invitation was given, Douglas made his way down to the Pastor, and asked Jesus into his life.

The years passed, and Douglas continued to serve Jesus and His church. At the age of 13 while attending a youth summer camp, Douglas decided to completely sell out to Jesus. He had accepted Jesus as a young boy, but was now reaffirming his relationship with him as a young man. This was a turning point for him. Jesus was now not just his Savior, but he was his Lord as well.

Douglas finished high school in 1997 and was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Arizona. There he studied Theater Arts, and his faith was put to the test. As with any young man entering the world, he was bombarded with many temptations.  But, he remembered whom he served, and stayed true to the commitment he had made. Douglas is proud to say that he was able to get his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2001, and did not have to pay a cent; all four years of college were paid through scholarships. Douglas does not claim that this happened because of himself, but he believes this was just one of many blessings bestowed upon him, as a reward for the commitment he held onto, to stay true to a Christ-like walk.

In 2001, Douglas began to work in the youth ministries with Crossroads. He also included his love for drama by working with the youth and young adults in several church productions.

While serving at Crossroads, he met a beautiful young woman, who was also very commited to her walk with Christ. It didn't take  long for this friendship to develop into something much more precious. On July 15, 2006, Douglas married the love of his life, Julie.

Douglas and Julie now work hand in hand serving Christ and the church He has blessed them with. They work in several different ministries, and are quick to get involved with more.

Douglas and Julie have a son (1 year) and are expecting their second child in April.

Douglas and Julie are excited to see what Christ is going to do in this new chapter of their lives. With Christ as their center, and Crossroads as their church family, they are hopeful and expectant of the bright future that awaits them.
